McDaniel: Federalism the Key to Preserving Our Liberty

At a Jefferson Day dinner party in 1830, President Andrew Jackson raised his glass in a toast and stated, “Our Union: It must be preserved.”

Also in the room was his Vice-President, John C. Calhoun. When Calhoun’s turn came, his toast was: “The Union, next to our liberty, most dear. May we all remember that it can only be preserved by respecting the rights of the States and by distributing equally the benefits and burdens of the Union.”

Although Calhoun’s legacy has been tainted by modern historians (his defense of slavery is indefensible), his advocacy of federalism rings true. [Read more…]

The embrace of Judeo-Christian morality is an indispensable component of American life and conservative ideology, particularly in the State of Mississippi.Chris McDaniel

It is the acceptance of an astute understanding shared by the founders — a belief that moral truths exist and are necessary for people to responsibly self-govern their own affairs.

Although we are all imperfect, Mississippi conservatives believe that moral limits to human behavior are intertwined into our nature, not simply accidents of history.  We regard such limits as something that must be conserved to protect character from avarice, envy, unhealthy ambition and destruction.  As Russell Kirk noted in his masterpiece, The Conservative Mind, we have a “belief in a transcendent order, or body of natural law, which rules society as well as conscience.” [Read more…]

Senator Chris McDaniel’s Letter to the Libertarian Party of Mississippi

After comments emerged from his former radio program, The Right Side, in which he made some comments upsetting to the Libertarian Party, Senator McDaniel wrote this letter to the Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Mississippi, Mario Barnes:


Thank you for writing. I appreciate your dedication to liberty.

I apologize for an email that is bound to be filled with typos, as I am in the campaign bus heading to Tupelo.

The comments were made almost 10 years ago, during a talk radio show I once hosted. To properly understand the context, one must understand the radio show. My producer, Jeremy, is an active member of the Libertarian Party. He and I had a great time over the years discussing liberty issues, and we agreed on most.
