Terry Burton, Tate Reeve’s second in command, was arrested by the Mississippi Highway Patrol in Starkville for driving under the influence of alcohol Wednesday night.
Burton, of Philadelphia, serves as Lt. Governor Tate Reeves’s top henchman as President Pro Tempore in the Mississippi State Senate.
Terry Burton drove his truck drunkenly into a ditch on the side of US 82 West, according to Mississippi Highway Patrol, who discovered the single-car accident and arrested the high-ranking Senator, who regularly presides over the Senate for Tate Reeves’s in Jackson.
MHP found Burton’s truck in a ditch after arriving to witness a call for a wrecker to pull a truck out of a ditch.
The sixty-two-year-old Burton didn’t sustain any injuries, and was later taken to the Oktibbeha County Jail, and was charged with DUI 2nd offense and failure to maintain proper lane.
This is the not the first time Burton has been charged with DUI. He was arrested in Brandon in 2014 and again in Scott County in 2016.
It is unclear whether both of his other DUI arrests would affect criminal proceedings stemming from this, Burton’s third DUI arrest.
