House Speaker Philip Gunn is still looking for creative ways to come after your hard earned dollars.
Gunn proposed his new tax idea Thursday as a part of his latest funding plan. Gunn is hoping Mississippi’s cities and counties will raise their gas taxes or other taxes to fill in the budget gap at the Transportation Department.
The transportation shortfall is largely a creation of the waste, fraud, nepotism and abuse the Republican legislature presides over in Jackson.
Gunn’s tax proposal comes just one month before a special legislative session in Jackson where legislators will potentially work on the important work Speaker Gunn and Lt. Gov. Reeves failed to complete during the regular 2017 session earlier this year.
The Mississippi Legislature led by Tate Reeves in the Senate and by Speaker Phil Gunn in the House, failed to complete the funding package for Mississippi’s Transportation Department during the 2017 legislative session.
The special session is scheduled for June 5.
