This week, appointed US Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith said of State Senator Chris McDaniel, “He’s got people who can’t think for themselves.” Really? Well, if that’s the case, instead of trying to think let’s just look at the record of this alleged “lifelong conservative” and see if it will bear scrutiny.
She was a Washington lobbyist for five years according to a January 20, 2000 Clarion-Ledger newspaper article, working for the National Coalition for Healthcare – a group that supported Obamacare. That’s a “lifelong conservative”?
A Breitbart news article on June 29, 2018 says former Mississippi Democratic Party Chairman Ricky Cole (he was Chairman while CH-S was a Democrat) said that Cindy Hyde-Smith supported Hillary Clinton in the 2008 Democratic Primary. The poll books show that she voted in the Democratic Primary in 2008. The only 3 candidates listed were Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Jonathan Edwards. Edwards received only 3 votes in that precinct. “Cindy was for Hillary in 2008,” Cole wrote in a Facebook comment on Thursday night. That’s a “lifelong conservative”?
That same article reports that when asked about Hillary Clinton becoming the first woman nominated by a major political party in 2016, Hyde-Smith told the Clarion-Ledger “We are always supporting women. We want to promote women. I think women make great leaders. The right one would do the right job.” She was asked about Hillary Clinton becoming the Democratic nominee and the first thing she says is, “We are always supporting women.” Not one word about how Hillary Clinton’s policies are opposed to those of a “lifelong conservative”? Hmmm.
Cindy Hyde-Smith voted against Senator Rand Paul’s “penny plan” to reduce government spending and work to reduce the deficit. That’s a “lifelong conservative”?
Cindy Hyde-Smith voted for the recent bloated spending bill which continues to provide funds to Planned Parenthood, funds ‘Sanctuary Cities’, does not get rid of Obamacare, and does not fund the Southern border wall – key items on President Trump’s agenda which CH-S claims to support yet voted not to support. That’s a “lifelong conservative”?
Political cartoonist Marshall Ramsey, no friend of Chris McDaniel, has twice mocked Cindy Hyde-Smith’s refusal to debate the other candidates for the open US Senate seat which she occupies by appointment. She claims that McDaniel is a weak candidate over whom she has a lead in the polls. If that is true, he ought to be easy to overcome in a debate, right? Even Mike Espy says that a debate is an opportunity for a candidate to tell the truth about their record. Why would a “lifelong conservative” be afraid of that? Oh…….. If you want to vote for a real conservative, I’d vote for Chris McDaniel.
