As we reported earlier today, Appointed Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, while serving as Commissioner of Agriculture, sought the authority to impose gun bans – for both concealed and unconcealed carriers – at the state fairgrounds complex and all properties of the Department of Agriculture.
But that was not the only constitutional violation that Commissioner Hyde-Smith wanted to impose on the people of Mississippi. In the same request from the Attorney General’s office, she wanted the authority to conduct “random searches” of people coming through the gates at the fairgrounds.
This would be not only a Second Amendment violation but also the Fourth Amendment, which protects citizens from “unreasonable searches and seizures.” Such searches can NOT be done randomly without “probable cause.”
The Fourth Amendment states:
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
So now we know that Cindy Hyde-Smith is a true lifelong Democrat who seeks to violate the rights and liberties of the people. She had no problem violating the Second and Fourth Amendments with gun control and “random searches” to enforce it.
Can she really be trusted to serve as a US Senator representing the great state of Mississippi?
